STOP SUBWAY DRINKERS FROM WALKING TO DEATH.
STOP SUBWAY DRINKERS FROM WALKING TO DEATH.
Problem Statement
Increasing numbers of drunk people in the Netherlands fall onto subway tracks and die as a result. Security footage investigation reveals a repeating trend in which drunk individuals get up from the benches on the platform and walk straight forward, as if they aren't aware of the platform edge.
Goal
Implement design solutions to prevent drunk individuals from falling onto subway tracks and improve overall platform safety.
Implement design solutions to prevent drunk individuals from falling onto subway tracks and improve overall platform safety.
Before we start finding the solution we need to Understand the psychological factors that influencing the Behaviour of Drunk peoples to develop more effective Solution.
Target Users
The Social Drinker : Sometimes, young people who love to socialise usually use the Subways while drunken, which affects their judgement and coordination.

The Struggling Individual : People who struggle with alcoholism and who frequently seek shelter in the subway system while heavily drunked, with severely reduced awareness.

User Behaviour
Automatic Walking Pattern : People who are drunk have a tendency to walk forward without stopping to consider their surroundings.

Bad Judgment and Coordination : Drinking alcohol reduces coordination, balance, and reaction speed, which raises the chance of accidents.

Reduced Awareness : People who are drunk could be less aware of their environment and potential dangers.

Solutions
Changes should be easily implementable and cost-effective.
The design should consider the flow of pedestrian traffic and avoid creating new hazards.
The solutions should to be User friendly and refrain from making drunk people feel unimportant.

The design should Consider pedestrian traffic flow under consideration and avoid from creating additional risks.
Solutions should be non-intrusive and avoid to feel intoxicated individuals as unimportant.
A multi-pronged approach was adopted to Deal with the problem.

1. Disrupting the Straight Path :
Curved Benches : Replacing straight benches with curved ones to naturally redirect individuals away from the platform edge upon standing.

Safety Barriers : Exploring the feasibility of installing platform screen doors for added protection.

Interactive Floor Tiles : The surface of the tactile is filled with rounded bumps or long slender directional bumps. These surface are 5 to 6 mm (+ or - 0.5 mm) which can be felt with the sensation. Installing This tiles near the edge to create a disruption and alert individuals to their proximity to danger.

2. Visual Cues and Lighting :
Brightly Coloured Strip : Install a brightly coloured (e.g., red or yellow) strip along the platform edge to create a clear visual boundary.

3. Sensory Cues and Alerts :
Motion-Activated Alarms : Sensors will be installed to trigger alerts with flashing lights and sounds when someone approaches the edge too quickly When Train is not at Track.
